Isolation is the new luxury
Gentle roads to gentle places... I have always loved the destinations which lay quietly beyond the map. The spot where the asphalt turns to dusty gravel, the one with the best vista…
A true story.
In the summer of 2015, Matty and I spent our honeymoon traveling through Mexico before arriving in Big Sur, California. After spending just one night here I swore to myself I would return home and build my own yurt, just like Mickey had ~ on a rugged coastline so peaceful you could hear the whales breaching below.
That dream came oh-so-close a few years later when we purchased our own bush block on ‘Roaring beach’ Tasmania. I often describe it as the “Big Sur of Tassie”, and as it has it this stunning, remote surfing beach shares the same wild flora and fauna. Huge, sprawling gums stretch out their arms out across an infinity of constant waves.
We affectionately called it Roaring View, and it quickly became our perfect escape. Tap the IG post below for the full story (and corny pics of us)…
As you can imagine, our plans for this special place were gentle, humble and sweet. A lovers cabin, with just enough room for the kids or some friends to bunker in. To wake up slow to bird song and the hush of the ocean, whilst tiny hands collect piles of aromatic snowberries from the surrounding trees.
Now it is ready for new custodians, to enter a new chapter…
I believe we’re brought together by a shared energy, a kind of magnetism, and if you're reading this, I hope you feel it too. Maybe it’s you who will build your dream home HERE? Whether it's a rocking yurt or an off-grid sanctuary that perfectly frames the breathtaking view of Wedge Island.
ARTIST FEATURE:: JAY NELSON
When DeeDee was just one, we were lucky enough to stay at a very special cabin in Kauai, designed and built by our now dear friend, Californian artist Jay Nelson. Jay’s approach to work is very much lifestyle first & we’ve often dreamed of him creating a space for us. I still hope that happens one day.
For now, you can ogle his truely unique spaces HERE.
LESS ROADS, MORE STARS:
May we continue to seek out the gems, the less-travelled paths. Even now, with two little ones in tow, it’s these kinds of stays that truly pluck the heartstrings, like a golden harp. Here are some favourites below with links, and yes, they’re all listed on #Airbnb.
